Your New Floor
Vanderhoff Floor Co. – Product, Process and Company Expectations
• All wood flooring requires climate control. Please allow the wood to acclimate to your normal living conditions (A/C in the summer, heat in the winter) for at least 24 hours prior to installation. Also, the entire installation, sand and finish process should be done in the same living conditions that you wish live in after the completion of your hardwood floors.
• Any wood floor is affected by changes in climate, especially changes in moisture levels. All floors will expand and contract with changes in season or drastic changes of the household temperature.
• Wood flooring is a natural product. No two pieces are alike. There will be variation in color, mineral streaks, filled knots and holes with unfinished, prefinished, engineered, stained and natural floors.
• With unfinished products, the highest grade of wood will have the least amount of variation in color, knots and mineral streaks but not the absence of them.
• All prefinished products come with a beveled edge.
• A butt-joint with a height of a credit card is within the tolerance of industry standards.
• The manufacturers’ warranties on prefinished products are very limited and you, the client, are responsible for reading through the warranty information provided with the product.
• All scheduling with the Vanderhoff Floor Company is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances that may arise. It is very common for jobs to take longer than expected in this industry. We appreciate your patience as we try to give our full attention to the current jobs at hand, as you will be given the same attention.
• It is the responsibility of the client to remove all furniture from the appropriate areas. This includes appliances as well. The Vanderhoff Floor Company is not insured or trained to move furniture professionally nor do we have the proper equipment to do so. Should the occasion arise when we have to move furniture, charges will be incurred and no liability will be assumed by the Vanderhoff Floor Company.
• It is the responsibility of the client to take any precautionary measures needed to prevent dust from entering other areas throughout the house. The Vanderhoff Floor Company cannot be held responsible for inadequate dust containment. There will be dust (even with pre-finished products) so please be prepared.
• The Vanderhoff Floor Company does cut wood inside the house in the areas that are being installed. If this is unacceptable please communicate this prior to installation.
• If a key is left for the Vanderhoff Floor Company in any location both inside and out, it will be assumed that it is acceptable to return the key in the exact same manner that it was left unless otherwise noted by the client.
• We the Vanderhoff Floor Company guarantee the quality and craftsmanship of our work. If you are unsatisfied with anything related the quality of our work please let us know immediately so that we may insure your complete satisfaction.
The Nature Of Wood
Wood is an extraordinary, beautiful, natural material that is proven to add value to your home — both as a financial investment, and from an enjoyment standpoint. Because it is a natural element, there are things you should know and expect from real hardwood flooring:
• Natural Color Changes: Just as your own skin “tans” with exposure to sunlight, wood flooring will undergo color changes with exposure to both artificial and natural light. Some color change may be dramatic — exotic species are especially prone to color change. Brazilian Cherry and Tiger Wood, for example, will become deeper and more red over time and with exposure to light. You should occasionally move area rugs and furniture that block light and may give the appearance of discoloration underneath.
• Natural Movement: Wood will expand and contract with seasonal moisture level changes. This may give the appearance of gaps or cracks in your floor — this is not a product defect. The wider the flooring, the more each individual piece will expand or contract with changes in moisture content. This movement can be minimized with proper use of HVAC including humidity control. Engineered flooring is less prone to natural movement, because it is “engineered” for dimensional stability.
• Natural Characteristics: Naturally occurring wood characteristics such as mineral streaks, knots, variations in grain and color are part of every hardwood floor. These characteristics are what make each floor unique.
DUE TO MANY OF THESE NATURAL CHARACTERISTICS, YOUR NEWLY
INSTALLED FLOOR WILL VARY FROM SAMPLES AND PICTURES.
